Montezuma Brewpub & Sanctuary

A working craft brewery, restaurant and former bed and breakfast at the trailhead to Montezuma's upper waterfalls, sold with a second, vacant commercial lot next door.

The main building. Ground floor: a fully licensed restaurant and bar with a ten-tap beer and soda system, souvenir shop, office and two bathrooms, and a deck seating 35 in the forest, where howler monkeys are a regular sight at dinner. Upstairs: three air-conditioned bedrooms, three bathrooms and a full kitchen, for the owner or for guests.

The brewery building. Brew room, fermentation room, full kitchen, two bathrooms, outdoor kitchen and keg-washing area. A small bedroom and balcony upstairs, used as an art studio and convertible to staff quarters. Bottling and labeling area, cold storage, tool shed and a loft used for raising caterpillars.

The butterfly garden. Recently renovated, with a fish pond, and described by the owners as the only brewery-attached butterfly garden in Costa Rica. It draws visitors of all ages.

Power and water. Municipal water plus a well with an irrigation system. A 56-panel solar array produces 800 to 1,100 kWh a month.

Status. The owners live on site. The bed and breakfast stopped operating in 2020; the brewery and restaurant are licensed. The vacant lot leaves room to add guest rooms or expand.
